Winter Park FL is a city that is located near Orlando, Florida. The city is known for its green spaces and abundant parks. Its leafy Central Park is home to a variety of cultural institutions. There is the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art that features Louis Comfort Tiffany glass art, and the Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens, which overlook Lake Osceola. In 1883, Dr. Edward Hooker, a physician from Massachusetts, arrived to Winter Park. He quickly mobilized his influential flock and raised enough money to build the city's first church sanctuary. Education is an important part of the Congregationalist mission, and the Congregationalists in Winter Park moved quickly to establish the state's first college.

A century later, the city is still an ideal place for those who want to escape the heat of Central Florida. A quaint college town with a friendly feel, Winter Park has plenty to offer. It also has a SUNRAIL train station, which makes it easy to get around town by public transportation.

The city grew quickly, with Winter Park topping a thousand inhabitants within five years. By the 1930s, it had grown to nearly 4,000. The city became an important tourist destination, and its population continued to grow. In 1920, a couple from Ohio built an 80-room hotel, the Alabama Hotel. The city's growth prompted the town's first official slogan: "City of Homes."

The first telegram sent from Winter Park was from U.S. President Chester A. Arthur in 1883. The next year, the city opened its first public library. In 1886, the town held a municipal election. In the following year, 102 voters voted to incorporate the town. The Chamber of Commerce and an Improvement Association were formed, which eventually grew into a city.
